Who coined the name Silicon Valley?
In 1971, Don Hoefler, a reporter for the Electronic News, overheard the name while having lunch. He used the name in a series of articles he wrote about the semiconductor industry, located in Northern California, which made chips using the material silicon. From that time on, the valley was referred to as Silicon Valley. Prior to this, the valley was known for its vast orchards of fruit, and was called ‘Valley of Heart's Delight.
